Iconic mixture of classicism and 1930's Art Deco. This German art deco work depicts a lovely young nude woman in richly detailed glazed porcelain. Titled "THE MEDITATION (MUSING)" SINNENDE. This is a SUBSTANTIAL work, from the sculptor ROBERT ULLMANN, masterfully executed in fine Meissen blanc de chine porcelain with a soft, glossy white glaze.

A classical piece, reminiscent of Rodin - as filtered through an Art Deco sensibility (most notably, the geometry of the hair). WEIGHT is in the 11-12 pound range. Very good condition, commensurate with age: minor surface wear, faint scratches to glaze.

Please see all pics as they are a vital part of description. Marked with the underglaze blue crossed swords of the MEISSEN PORCELAIN MANUFACTORY. This historically significant work is indeed a quintessential example of the sculpture created immediately before - and under - the Third Reich. (Fritz Klimsch, Rudolf Kaesbach, Lore Gronau, and Georg Kolbe are among the well-known and gifted artists who lent their talents to the regime's aesthetic - as did of course Albert Speer, Leni Riefenstahl and Arno Breker).

One may see other works from the same period from Goldscheider, Hutschenreuther Selb, Hagenauer, Herend, Lladro, and Rosenthal. We are in the process of researching another truly stunning piece from Leda Binder Keramik which we have owned for a few years and never seen another example of. Please also check our other listings!

In the coming weeks, we will be offering several other prized 1920's - 1930's French Art Deco pieces, including sculptures by ALEXANDRE OULINE, LUCIEN GIBERT, JEAN DE RONCOURT, MAX LE VERRIER, tea/coffee sets from CHRISTOFLE, PUIFORCAT flatware, goblets and cocktail set from Desny, Revere, Lurelle Guild for Kensington, and Chase, modernist paintings, a suite of cubist portraits and lithographs, African and tribal art, as well as a nice selection of furniture - a Machine Age Norman Bel Geddes for Simmons bedroom set, (dressers, bed, vanity / desk), tables, and chairs by Wolfgang Hoffmann and Alfons Bach (Royalchrome, Lloyd). Also, a stunning Italian Art Deco credenza in the style of Gio Ponti, a Paul Frankl inspired skyscraper coffee table, a Donald Deskey vanity from John Widdicomb, and small objects and figurines (Rosenthal, Hertwig Kathutte), as well as several art, photography, fashion, architecture, and design monographs from our extensive library. We will also be listing Italian fashion (mainly menswear & accessories), as well as vintage luggage / trunks from BOTTEGA VENETA and a simply smashing vellum steamer trunk in near-mint condition.
