For sale is a superb figurine made in France in the earlier 20th century during the late Art Nouveau or early Art Deco period. The figure is of a noble lady possibly Queen Isabeau de Baviere (Elisabeth of Bavaria) who married King Charles VI. The figure is the nicest I have come across from this area and period. I cannot find anything like her. A truly superb and stunning figurine modeled and hand painted perfectly in the taste of this period.
The lady is dressed in a long flowing blue robe with ermine fur along the edges, a raised design gold shirt and a superb headdress with turquoise "jewels" and more ermine fur. She is reading a book. The details and form of this figurine is top! Only thing I can somewhat compare it to is the St.Petersburg figures from this period I have owned. Not sure who made it likely from the Limoges or Paris regions.
Edouard Marcel Sandoz, Robj, Aladin all come to mind but this piece here is a better quality. Maybe someone out there knows and could send me a note.
The figure is in superb condition with just a few uneven spots in the paint mainly towards the bottom part of the robe from when she was made. She displays perfectly and look absolutely stunning! The figurine is sadly only marked with FRANCE as shown plus a few old dealer stickers.
The figurine is 11 inches tall, 3.75 inches wide and 5.625 inches deep. The only medieval queen pieces I could find were made by Dressel Kister in Germany but they are not as nice as this lady here! If you like my goodies have a look at my other auctions for a lot more top maker pieces like KPM, Sevres and so on. Photos are part of the description. Please do not send me questions on items other than my own!
