He was gifted and inspired and his factory focused on Art Nouveau and Art Deco designs. By the time of his death, in 1937 his son Urbano had even bigger dreams and wanted Zaccagnini to become the premier porcelain export in North America. He traveled to the US and was much more hands on in negotiating deals. This stunning "Goddess Athena" Vase by Zaccagnini was one of the popular white and gilt Neoclassical pieces Zaccagnini produced for upscale tastes and interiors!
NY was busy with the second year of the World's Fair which also featured, prominently, Grecian inspired sculptures and designs. Goddess Athena is here depicted on horseback, wearing her helmet and wielding her spear. Athena is the Goddess of Wisdom and of War.
She was the protector of Athens and was known as the Parthenos (virgin). This incredibly rare piece comes fresh from the original owner, a Scottsdale estate, and has never before been offered. We are not aware of a similar Zaccagnini Athena Vase having ever been offered and suspect production was extremely limited. This vase is in very good vintage condition. It has a chip on the base and light age wear throughout.
The gold is in fine condition and shows little wear for 80 years. This treasure is perfect for your NY Penthouse, Palm Springs Atomic Ranch or West Palm Beach Estate! ZACCAGNINI'S GODDESS ATHENA FOR YOUR INCREDIBLE INTERIORS!
