It is an 8 tall vase, a porcelain blank from Thomas Ivory, and with the enamel and silver overlay completed by the artist. It features an art deco botanical leaf design, in green yellow and pink subtle color transitions, against a soft blue background and expertly applied silver overlay. The precision and detail of the design, the meticulous enamel color application, and the overlay evenness and balance is unparalleled compared to other piece I have seen by this artist.
A silversmith, he opened a small decorating operation in the small town of Pluderhausen. Much of his work apparently did not survive the WWII era.
The source of the blank, Thomas Ivory Porcelain, was founded in 1903 and in 1908 Rosenthal became a major shareholder. The Porzellanfabrik Thomas operated as an independent subsidiary. The bottom of the piece was covered with an old piece of blue felt that was removed, the vestiges remain. The piece is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or crazing seen.
There is minimal staining in the interior. The silver overlay and enamel are in great condition, with some gradiation in the blue hue background that may be intentional or from time and exposure. I see only some light scratches here and there. I did not attempt to clean the silver and enamel but left it with the original patina after only wiping with a soft cloth. The vase is 8" tall, about 6" across at the widest point, the top opening is 3 3/4" across, and the base is 3 1/4".
The marks on the base date this piece to the mid-late 1940s. Please see all pictures for condition and details. Please message me if you would like more pictures of any aspect.
