Very rare and superb vase titled " Ernte " (Harvest) made by Augarten during the original period of the 1920's or 30's. These along with some pieces from the.
Wiener Kunstkeramische Werkstätte are among the best pieces of this period! I could not find another example and it is so rare that it is not clear which artist's hands were at work here of the many very famous ones working at Augarten during this period. Some of the possibilities are Otto Prutscher, Franz von Zülow, Ena Rottenberg, Michael Powolny, Hertha Bucher and Mela Köhler to name a few. Definitely by one of the top painters of the period looking at the piece in person! The vase has a definite Art Deco influence but also a Chinoiserie one with odd details like the sun with a face. The vase is hand painted with a harvest scene - one lady is standing on a ladder picking apples while another one is holding the basket up to her to help. A third girl or lady is sitting in the grass holding an apple with a little dog running towards her. The apple tree has its leaves and branches going all around the top of the vase. There is a gold trim to the top and bottom edge. An amazing piece and definitely a new favorite of mine! The vase is 9.5 inches tall and has a diameter of 5.5 inches. It is in perfect condition with jut a bit of wear to the gilding. It is marked underneath with the blue shield with the crown on top as well as the word Wien underneath, Augarten Austria in a red rectangle which is worn a bit and the Form number F.103 and Decor number D. No painter's mark and it is not signed so that doesn't help at all either. Antique 20thC 20th century Deko Nouveau.
