Pair of Pass & Seymour (ALABAX) Art Deco, Black Porcelain Sconces & Opal Cylinder Shades. These black porcelain sconces were manufactured by Pass & Seymour in Syracuse, NY during the 1930's to early 1950's. They are not signed, but we have had this type of fixture before, and they were definitely made by Pass & Seymour. The porcelain on these fixtures is in very good condition... They are chip free but have few faint scratches that you have to look for to find.
We have carefully cleaned each sconce including removing the old wall paint from the sides and back. The opal glass shades are new. We had to cut them to length and the original factory ends are nearly perfect while the ends that we cut have a few tiny chips along the rims which cannot be seen if you mount those ends at the top where they are hidden. We have shown each end of the shades in photos #9 & #10. We rewired the bulb sockets with new heat resistant wiring.
The fixtures have been tested and they work perfectly. Dimensions: 6-3/4" high, 3-3/4" wide, project 5 from the wall. They use standard base bulbs (not included). A note on mounting: DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN the mounting screws. We have seen these type of sconces for sale with the mounting hole broken out, no doubt because the installer was aggressive with a screwdriver. These are porcelain, not metal, and they will break if you over tighten the mounting screws. Porcelain has no elasticity and will not give! Just firm the screws up and stop.
They will not fall off the wall! They will be packed securely in bubble wrap and biodegradable packing peanuts made from starch. We have a second pair of these in white in another listing. Just notify us within 30 days of receiving them.
We have other sconces and lots of other porcelain fixtures for sale, so please check out our.
