Porcelain WIZARD INKWELL 3 Pc Art Deco Estate After Shafer Vater Germany Wowza

  
RARE SHAFER VATER PORCELAIN WIZARD INKWELL. One 3-piece porcelain inkwell that is shaped like an up-to-no-good wizard (check out those fingernails). It belonged to my grandmother who collected figurines, mostly German, from the 1920s and 30s. It's marked but not clearly, and there is a mold number 2705 on the base's reverse.

If it's not a Shafer & Vater, I'll eat my crystal ball but research found no others like it to verify, past or present. It's been packed away for decades with other valuable inkwells.

Assembled, it measures 4 1/2" tall by 3" wide by 2 1/2 deep, and the 3 pieces appear to be an original set. It is beautifully hand-painted in typical S&V detail. The colors are still vivid with no cracks, crazing, or chips. He wears an iridescent green glazed costume and a purple cap, where a pen would rest.

The top, ink holder, and body are all gloss-glazed except for the exterior of the ink holder (it fits the body much better than my photos show). The body's base is open underneath which makes removing the holder much easier. The overall condition is excellent considering the age, purpose, and rarity. The underside edge of the lid has been repaired but barely shows when assembled.

There are a few manufacturers' glaze spots. These are all easy to overlook once you are spellbound by that face. Please inspect all of the photos to see exactly what you will receive and bear in mind that every speck of dust is magnified in the Zoom photos. NO QUESTION IS TOO SMALL & IS ALWAYS WORTH ASKING.
