"SUNRAY" A SHELLEY VOGUE TEASET Trio. DESIGNED BY ERIC SLATER, 1930. Pattern 11742, printed and painted with a geometric design in yellow and black, comprising; tea cup, saucer, and side plate. "Sunray" trio in perfect condition, one the most sought-after pieces from the iconic high art deco range from Shelley china.

"Sunray" entered the pattern book during or after 1930 and has the Shirley backstamp 1925 to 1940 and his part of the range of Vogue China with its high art deco distinctive triangular handle and. The "Sunray" pattern one of the most evocative designs of Shelley's Art Deco period. The cup stands 6.5cm high with the tea plate having a diameter of 16cm. It is in superb condition with no chips, cracks nor restoration, no crazing, the paint is excellent.

There may be minor imperfections such as kiln grit spots, kiln rack marks etc from the time of production. These are totally normal for this period- please see the photographs. Potteries are best known for their delicate, attractive and adventurous bone china tea and coffee wares of the 1920s and 1930s.

This cup, saucer and side plate is in the'Vogue' shape featuring the'Sunray' pattern. It was designed in 1930 by Shelley Art Director, Eric Slater, who studied under Gordon Forsyth, an advocate of improvement in industrial design. Slater's'Vogue' shape was very modern and made from finely-turned high quality bone china. The geometric form conical cups with solid triangular handles was well-matched with a range of dynamic Art Deco patterns. Sunray' was one of the most successful patterns and is now highly-prized by collectors.
